Ry Cooder is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is known for his solo work and collaborations with many other artists. He is considered a master of many different genres including blues, Americana, folk, rock, and world music.

Ry Cooder began his career as a session musician in the 1960s and 1970s, playing guitar on albums by Captain Beefheart, Randy Newman, The Rolling Stones, and others. His debut solo album, Ry Cooder, was released in 1970. Since then, he has released a number of successful albums including Into the Purple Valley (1972), Paradise and Lunch (1974), Bop Till You Drop (1979), and Get Rhythm (1987).

Ry Cooder's standout albums include Into the Purple Valley, Chicken Skin Music (1976), and Buena Vista Social Club (1997). His standout songs include "Little Sister," "Crossroads," "He'll Have to Go," "Down in Mississippi," and "In His Care."

An interesting fact about Ry Cooder is that he was the first American musician to be invited to perform in Cuba since the United States imposed a trade embargo on the country in 1962. He visited Cuba in 1996 and recorded the Grammy-winning album, Buena Vista Social Club, with a group of Cuban musicians.
