The Long Riders (Original Sound Track) is an LP by Ry Cooder from 1980 released on the Warner Bros. Records label.
About this album
Ry Cooder’s The Long Riders soundtrack is a finely judged blend of folk, blues and old-time American music that gives Walter Hill’s western a genuine sense of period and place. Issued in 1980, the score draws on traditional material as well as Cooder’s own instrumental writing, using fiddle, banjo, guitar and spare ensemble textures to evoke the outlaw era without sounding museum-like. The result is one of his most distinctive film works: understated, rootsy and dramatically exact. It helps the film’s frontier mythology feel earthy and human, while standing on its own as a compact statement of American musical history.
