Albums First Released in 2024
Club music, guitar bands and new forms of pop shared the centre in 2024, while several artists moved from specialist audiences to the mainstream. Standout albums from 2024 include BRAT by Charli xcx, Two Star & the Dream Police by Mk.gee, Romance by Fontaines D.C. and Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish.
Charli xcx brought club production into mainstream pop, Mk.gee reshaped guitar texture, Fontaines D.C. widened their sound and Billie Eilish made one of her most physically detailed records.

Our Pick of the Year: BRAT by Charli xcx
BRAT uses hard club drums, spare synth lines and unusually direct writing about ambition, friendship and insecurity. 360, Von dutch and Girl, so confusing work as immediate pop songs, but the album also documents the tension between confidence and self-doubt. Its visual identity made the release easy to recognise without replacing the music.
