folklore was written and recorded during the first months of the pandemic, with Taylor Swift working closely with Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. Cardigan, Exile and Betty use fictional characters and quieter arrangements to shift attention towards narrative songwriting. The album introduced a different sound without abandoning clear pop structure.
