Weather Report – Heavy Weather (E/E) – LP, JP 1977, No OBI

Heavy Weather is an LP by Weather Report from 1977 released on the CBS/Sony label.

About this album

Heavy Weather is Weather Report’s breakthrough fusion album, marrying dazzling improvisation with unusually direct hooks and a polished ensemble sound. Released in 1977, it captured the band at a peak line-up led by Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, with Jaco Pastorius bringing a new level of melodic bass playing to the music. The album’s best-known piece, “Birdland”, became one of jazz-fusion’s signature tunes and helped broaden the group’s audience well beyond jazz circles. Widely regarded as a defining statement of the genre, Heavy Weather remains a key record in Weather Report’s catalogue and a landmark of late-1970s jazz fusion.
