Warsaw documents Joy Division at the point where their jagged punk energy was hardening into something darker and more distinctive. Compiled from early recordings made in 1977, it captures the band before Closer and Unknown Pleasures, but already hints at the bleak intensity and disciplined tension that would make them one of post-punk’s most influential groups. Songs such as ‘Transmission’, ‘Shadowplay’ and ‘She’s Lost Control’ show how swiftly they moved beyond simple velocity into atmosphere, restraint and emotional weight. As an early portrait of the group, it remains a crucial record of their emergence.
