After the tour for the predecessor, the band, which at the time consisted of Peter Hammill (vocals, guitar, piano), David Jackson (tenor and soprano saxophone, flute), Hugh Banton (Hammond organ, bass, Mellotron, piano) and Guy Evans (drums, percussion), went back into the studio at Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire. There they completed the two songs "Pilgrims" and "La Rossa", which were still from the "Godbluff" session, and wrote the three remaining tracks "Still Life", "My Room (Waiting For Wonderland)" and "Childlike Faith In Childhood's End".
In a 2002 interview with Mojo magazine, Banton recalled, "I remember we did 'Still Life,' which is probably my favorite Van der Graaf album ever, and Charisma [Records] came and said, 'Oh, that's just a filler. The stopgap album? We don't do stopgap albums!".
The English prog-rock band Van Der Graaf Generator was founded in Manchester in 1967. To date, they have released 13 studio albums (two of them under the name Van der Graaf). Their most recent release was "Do Not Disturb" in 2016. Many of the records, especially from the 1970s, were groundbreaking for their genre.
This new vinyl edition of this classic has been remastered from the original tapes and recorded at Abbey Road Studios. The original LP artwork has been fully restored.
