About this album
Shoot Out at the Fantasy Factory is a muscular late-period Traffic album that blends prog rock ambition with psychedelic looseness. Released in 1973, it finds Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and others stretching songs into long, exploratory performances, with the title track and Roll Right Stones showing the group’s love of open-ended grooves and lyrical drift. By this stage Traffic had become one of British rock’s most distinctive jam bands, mixing blues, jazz and folk accents with a more spacious, improvisational approach. The album stands as a strong example of the band’s confident, free-flowing form in the early 1970s.
