About this album
Raw Power is the album that pushed The Stooges from cult outsiders to one of rock’s defining proto-punk bands. Released in 1973, it sharpened the group’s garage-rock violence into something leaner, faster and more hostile, with Iggy Pop’s snarling vocal attack driving songs like Search and Destroy, Gimme Danger and the title track. Produced by David Bowie and famously mixed in a way that has fuelled decades of debate, the record became a blueprint for punk and hard rock alike. Its influence on later generations of bands helped secure Raw Power’s status as one of the great confrontational rock albums.
