Weasels Ripped My Flesh is one of Frank Zappa and The Mothers’ most audacious albums, turning satire, blues rock and free jazz into a deliberately unruly collage. Released in 1970, it draws on live and studio material to underline the band’s range, from the biting “My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama” to the explosive title track. The record also reflects Zappa’s deep interest in modern composition, improvisation and absurdist humour, with the ensemble moving between tight riffing, abrupt shifts and unhinged instrumental passages. It remains a key statement from Zappa’s early-1970s period and a landmark of rock’s experimental edge.
