The Mothers

The Mothers of Invention were an American rock band formed in 1964 in Los Angeles, California, by singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Frank Zappa. The band was a collective of session musicians and later featured a rotating line-up of Zappa's musical collaborators.

The Mothers of Invention released nine studio albums between 1966 and 1979. Notable albums include Freak Out! (1966), Absolutely Free (1967), We’re Only in It for the Money (1968), Cruising with Ruben & the Jets (1968), and One Size Fits All (1975).

Notable songs include “Who Are the Brain Police?”, “Trouble Every Day”, “Help, I’m a Rock”, “You Didn’t Try to Call Me”, “Call Any Vegetable”, “Brown Shoes Don’t Make It”, “San Ber’dino”, “Don’t Eat the Yellow Snow”, “Dancin’ Fool”, and “Dinah-Moe Humm”.

An interesting fact is that the Mothers of Invention are considered to be one of the first “prog-rock” bands and their music is considered to be a major influence on the development of punk rock.
