    Absolutely Free is one of the sharpest statements by The Mothers in their early, most provocative period. Released in 1967, the album pushes beyond simple psychedelia, mixing blues rock, collage-like arrangements and avant-garde ideas with Frank Zappa’s cutting satire. Its two-sided suite structure moves from absurd social commentary to bursts of instrumental invention, with songs such as Plastic People and Brown Shoes Don’t Make It standing out for their wit and musical restlessness. Widely regarded as a landmark of late-1960s experimental rock, it helped establish Zappa and The Mothers as fearless critics of American culture.
