The Avalanches – We Will Always Love You (2xLP, 2026 Repress)

The Avalanches' We Will Always Love You is the Australian duo's 2020 third album, built around ideas of love, memory and what music can carry beyond a single lifetime. Inspired by the Voyager Golden Record and by the story of Ann Druyan and Carl Sagan, it takes the sample-rich language of Since I Left You and Wildflower into more cosmic, existential territory without losing the group's gift for warmth and motion.

Sampling still sits at the centre, but this is also The Avalanches at their most song-focused. A huge cast of guests including Blood Orange, MGMT, Johnny Marr, Leon Bridges, Jamie xx, Neneh Cherry, Tricky, Karen O and Rivers Cuomo are folded into the collage rather than simply dropped on top of it. Tracks such as “The Divine Chord,” “Interstellar Love” and “Running Red Lights” show how naturally the duo balance dense production with melody, turning an ambitious concept record into something surprisingly human and direct.

What makes the album so rewarding is how its scale never crowds out its emotion. The Avalanches use voices, samples and radio-like fragments to ask unusually big questions about identity, death and connection, yet the record remains inviting rather than abstract. If their debut felt like a party assembled from memory, this one feels like a transmission sent outward: expansive, collaborative and full of feeling.
