About this album

Jazz Samba Encore! is a graceful extension of Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfá’s landmark bossa nova-jazz partnership. Issued in 1963, the album follows the breakthrough success of their earlier collaboration by deepening the blend of cool tenor saxophone, delicate guitar and Brazilian rhythmic pulse that helped bring bossa nova to a wider international jazz audience. Getz’s fluid phrasing and Bonfá’s melodic touch give the record a refined, intimate quality, while the repertoire reinforces the style’s balance of лёгance, melancholy and swing. It stands as one of the notable documents of the early bossa nova boom and of Getz’s enduring rapport with Brazilian music.
