Luiz Bonfá was a Brazilian composer, guitarist, and singer who was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1922. He was a major figure in the creation of bossa nova, a genre of music combining jazz and Brazilian samba. Bonfá's career spanned more than four decades, from the 1950s to the 1990s, during which he released numerous albums and singles. Bonfá's standout albums include "Luiz Bonfá Plays and Sings Bossa Nova" (1962), "Solo in Rio" (1966), "Samba e Amor" (1967), and "Forever Bonfá" (1988). His most popular songs include "Manhã de Carnaval", "A Felicidade", "Samba de Orfeu", and "O Morro Não Tem Vez". An interesting fact about Bonfá is that he wrote the title track for the 1959 film "Black Orpheus", which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He also wrote the title track for the 1964 film "The Night of the Iguana".
