About this album

Pygmalion is Slowdive’s most radical and enduring statement, a 1995 album that moved the band away from shoegaze density towards sparse, meditative sound design. Built on hushed vocals, guitar fragments, dubby bass and ambient space, it favours drift and texture over immediate impact, yet its restraint gives the record lasting force. Arriving after the band’s early 1990s run, it initially divided listeners but has since become widely regarded as a landmark of post-rock-adjacent experimentation and a key influence on later ambient and dream-pop artists. Its slow-burning grace is most apparent in the haunting Blue Skied An' Clear.
