    A Farewell to Kings is the album where Rush pushed their hard-rock foundations into fully realised prog ambition. Released in 1977, their fifth studio album sharpened the trio’s technical precision while widening their palette with acoustic textures, extended structures and more pronounced keyboard colour. Recorded with production by Rush and Terry Brown, it includes some of the band’s best-known work, from the single Closer to the Heart to the sprawling Cygnus X-1 and the epic Xanadu. The record helped define Rush’s late-1970s identity and became a key release in their move from cult favourites to progressive rock heavyweights.
