Roxy Music's For Your Pleasure arrived in 1973 as the band's second album and quickly pushed their debut's art-rock experiment further: more studio time, more elaborate production, and a stronger pull between Bryan Ferry's elegant songcraft and Brian Eno's disruptive electronic textures. That tension is part of what gives the record its charge, and it also makes this the last Roxy Music album to feature Eno.
The music constantly balances glamour and unease. "Do the Strand" and "Editions of You" turn sharp hooks into something wiry and unpredictable, while "In Every Dream Home a Heartache" and the nine-minute "The Bogus Man" open the door to a stranger, more atmospheric side of the band, full of tape effects, synth shimmer and long-form suspense. Released at a moment when rock was still sorting out how avant-garde ideas could live inside pop songs, For Your Pleasure helped sketch out a new vocabulary for glam, art rock and what would follow in the decade after.
It was also a major commercial step forward, reaching No. 4 in the UK, and it still feels like a key record in the Roxy catalogue because it captures the group at their most restless and inventive. This 2022 half-speed edition reflects that sense of style as well as sound, pairing a fresh cut with revised artwork in a gloss-laminated sleeve.
