    Horses is the landmark debut that made Patti Smith a defining voice of punk’s first wave. Released in 1975 and produced by John Cale, it fused raw rock energy with poetic, free-form lyrics and a striking sense of independence. Smith’s reinterpretation of “Gloria” and originals such as “Free Money” and “Birdland” helped establish a new model for punk: intellectual, confrontational and deeply personal. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios, the album became a touchstone for art rock and alternative music, admired for its fearless blend of confession, attitude and cultural defiance. Its influence on later generations of artists is hard to overstate.
