Overkill is Motörhead’s breakthrough statement, distilling the band’s brutal speed, volume and rock’n’roll attitude into a landmark 1979 release. Cut at Roundhouse Studios and produced by Jimmy Miller, it sharpened the trio’s attack without sanding off the raw edge that made them notorious. The title track and songs like Stay Clean and No Class helped define Motörhead’s hard-driving sound, bridging heavy metal and rock & roll in a way that influenced punk and metal alike. Widely regarded as one of their essential albums, it captured the band at the point where their sound became a template for loud, fast British rock.
