Birds Of Fire is an LP by Mahavishnu Orchestra from 1973 released on the CBS label.
About this album
Birds Of Fire is Mahavishnu Orchestra at full force, a defining jazz-rock fusion statement that pushed virtuosic improvisation into thrilling new territory. Released in 1973, it follows The Inner Mounting Flame and features John McLaughlin’s fiercely intricate writing with the group’s extraordinary ensemble precision, helped by contributions from Billy Cobham, Jan Hammer, Jerry Goodman and Rick Laird. The title track, along with pieces such as Miles Beyond and Sanctuary, combines dense rhythmic complexity, electric volume and Indian-influenced melodic ideas into a sound that was both technically daunting and hugely influential. Widely regarded as one of fusion’s key albums, it helped set the standard for the genre’s ambition and intensity.
