Madder Lake – Butterfly Farm (VG/VG) – LP, AU 1974

Butterfly Farm is an LP by Madder Lake from 1974 released on the Mushroom label.

About this album

Butterfly Farm is Madder Lake’s ambitious 1974 prog-rock statement, balancing muscular Australian rock with melodic, extended song forms. The album followed the Melbourne band’s early-1970s rise and showed a group willing to stretch beyond straightforward hard rock into more elaborate arrangements and changes of pace. Songs such as “Mother Ship” and the title track point to the band’s interest in surreal imagery, driving rhythms and larger-scale composition, while the record’s mix of heft and tunefulness gives it enduring appeal. For listeners exploring Australian progressive rock, Butterfly Farm remains one of the scene’s notable mid-70s releases.
