About this album

Level Best is a smart, career-spanning showcase of Level 42 at their most melodic and commercially assured. Issued in 1989, the compilation draws together the British band’s charting blend of jazz-funk, synth-pop and sleek pop-soul, highlighting the sharp bass work of Mark King and the hooks that made songs such as Lessons in Love, Something About You and Running in the Family enduring favourites. It captures the group’s rise from sophisticated funk players to one of the most recognisable crossover acts of the decade, making a strong case for their place in 1980s pop history.
