About this album
From Branch To Branch is a graceful 1981 statement from Leon Redbone, refining his bemused take on jazz, blues and ragtime into an intimate old-timey set. Drawing on vintage American song forms, Redbone turns standards and obscurities alike into dry, wry performances anchored by his dusky baritone and acoustic phrasing. The album reflects the appeal that made him a cult favourite: scholarly in taste but never stiff, affectionate without pastiche, and slyly funny without losing musical poise. It sits neatly within the early-1980s revival of pre-war styles, showing why Redbone remained one of the most distinctive interpreters of traditional song.
