Against The Wind is a landmark Australian soundtrack that gave Jon English and Mario Millo’s music enduring cultural reach. Written for the 1978 television miniseries about the Irish convict experience in colonial Australia, it blends folk-inflected themes, choral colour and dramatic orchestration to serve the story while standing on its own. The score’s best-known piece, “Six Ribbons”, became a major theme and a lasting favourite, helping the soundtrack connect far beyond television audiences.
