About this album
A refined Baroque anthology led by Pachelbel’s Canon, performed by The Academy of Ancient Music under Christopher Hogwood. Issued in 1981, this programme brings together some of the best-known orchestral pages by Pachelbel, Händel, Vivaldi and Gluck, with Hogwood’s period-instrument approach giving the music lightness, clarity and rhythmic poise. The Canon and Gigue anchors the set, while selections such as the Water Music and Arrival of the Queen of Sheba underline why these composers remain central to the Baroque repertory. It is a smart, accessible showcase of historically informed performance at a formative moment in the early music revival.
