About this album
Golden Hour Presents Joan Baez is a strong overview of Baez’s early peak, drawing on the folk songs and protest anthems that made her one of the era’s defining voices. Issued in 1976, this compilation brings together material associated with her interpretations of songs by Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and others, alongside traditional repertoire and later staples such as The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down. Baez’s clear, high soprano and unwavering phrasing give these performances their authority, while the set reflects her role in bringing folk music into the mainstream and linking it to the civil rights and anti-war movements.
