Released in 1975, the album paired her crystalline voice with sharply chosen material, including the title song and interpretations of Bob Dylan, Jackson Browne, Stevie Wonder and Tom Waits, while also extending her own songwriting. Produced by David Kershenbaum, it shows Baez moving beyond protest iconography into mature, reflective storytelling, balancing personal memory with contemporary songcraft. The record became one of her best-regarded later works and a strong statement of artistic independence in the mid-1970s.
