About this album
Freight Train Heart finds Jimmy Barnes sharpening his post-Cold Chisel solo identity into hard-edged, arena-ready rock. Released in 1987, the album pairs his sandpaper roar with punchy songwriting and polished mainstream production, giving him a string of forceful, radio-friendly anthems. Songs such as Driving Wheels, Too Much Ain’t Enough Love and Waitin’ For the Heartache helped establish the record as one of his best-known solo statements, balancing toughness with melody and emotional directness. Blending rock and pop with a distinctly muscular Australian swagger, Freight Train Heart became an important marker in Barnes’ late-1980s rise as a solo force.
