About this album

Jerry Goldsmith’s First Blood is a gripping, unusually sombre action score that gives the film its emotional core. Written for the 1982 Sylvester Stallone thriller, the music balances military tension, brooding textures and a memorable main theme, with the song version of It’s a Long Road becoming closely associated with the film’s lonely, wounded protagonist. Goldsmith, already one of Hollywood’s most respected composers, uses restraint as much as force, making the violence feel more tragic than triumphant. The soundtrack is widely regarded as one of the key works in his late-career film output and a defining musical statement for the First Blood franchise.
