Les Concerts En Chine is a landmark document of Jean-Michel Jarre’s 1981 tour of China, bringing electronic music into a setting few Western artists had reached before. Recorded live in Beijing and Shanghai and released in 1982, it presents Jarre’s sequencer-driven sound on a grand scale, with familiar pieces such as Equinoxe and Les Chants Magnétiques reshaped for performance alongside new material. The album’s mix of ambient colour, mechanical pulse and ceremonial drama helped turn an ambitious tour into a cultural event, underlining Jarre’s role as one of electronic music’s great popularisers. It remains one of his most distinctive live statements.
