About this album

Eventyr is a lyrical and textural ECM meeting point for Jan Garbarek, Naná Vasconcelos and John Abercrombie. Released in 1981, the album blends Garbarek’s keening saxophone, Abercrombie’s spacious guitar and Vasconcelos’s highly inventive percussion into music that feels both meditative and exploratory. Its impact lies in the way the trio turn folk-like melodies and open improvisation into a coherent, atmospheric whole, balancing Nordic cool with rhythmic warmth and improvisational risk. The record stands as a fine example of ECM’s early-1980s sound, where clarity, space and musicianship were as expressive as the notes themselves.
