About this album
More Real Folk Blues is a strong Howlin’ Wolf compilation that showcases the raw authority of one of Chicago blues’ defining voices. Issued in 1967, it gathers Chess-era material from across his peak years, when his guttural delivery, clipped guitar work and taut band arrangements helped turn Delta roots into hard-edged urban blues. The collection underlines why songs such as “I’m the Wolf” and “Who Will Be Next?” remained so influential: Wolf sounded larger than the room, yet utterly direct. As part of Chess’s folk-blues series, the album helped frame his catalogue for a broader audience and remains a key document of his impact.
