  • Bummed is an LP by Happy Mondays from 1990 released on the Factory, Festival Records label.

    About this album

Bummed is the album where Happy Mondays found their defining sound: scruffy, dancefloor-minded and unmistakably Mancunian. Released in 1988, it pushed the band further from indie rock towards the acid-house crossover that would later be called Madchester, with Stephen Street’s production sharpening the grooves without sanding off the chaos. The record’s slurred humour, relentless rhythms and ragged charisma made it a key bridge between post-punk attitude and club culture. Songs such as Wrote For Luck became emblematic of the era, and the album is widely regarded as one of the essential releases in the band’s rise.
