Reed Seed is an LP by Grover Washington, Jr. from 1978 released on the Motown label.

About this album

Reed Seed finds Grover Washington, Jr. refining the soulful jazz-funk sound that made him one of the most accessible instrumental voices of the late 1970s. Released in 1978, the album balances supple saxophone lines with polished rhythm-section arrangements, moving easily between soul-jazz warmth and the smoother crossover style that would define his wider appeal. With highlights such as “Do Dat” and the album’s title piece, Washington keeps the focus on melody, feel and restraint rather than flash. It sits neatly in the period when jazz was reaching broader audiences without losing its improvisational core.
