Dr. John – Locked Down (E/E) – LP, US 2012

Locked Down is an LP by Dr. John from 2012 released on the Nonesuch label.

About this album

Locked Down is a sharp late-career statement from Dr. John, reinvigorating his New Orleans roots with gritty blues, swampy funk and psychedelic edge. Released in 2012 and produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, the album pairs Mac Rebennack’s weathered voice and piano with a tougher, more stripped-back sound than much of his earlier work. Its title track and songs such as Revolution and Ice Age show him sounding defiant, contemporary and deeply rooted in Louisiana tradition at once. Widely praised on release, the album won the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album and stands as one of his strongest modern recordings.
