    Deep Purple In Rock is the album that turned Deep Purple into one of hard rock’s defining bands. Released in 1970, it introduced the classic Mark II line-up of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice, and pushed the group into a heavier, more aggressive sound. Built around thunderous riffs, organ-driven force and Gillan’s stratospheric vocals, it helped set the template for heavy metal and progressive hard rock. Songs such as Speed King and Child In Time became enduring signatures, while the album’s impact made it a landmark of early 1970s British rock.
