David Sylvian – Gone To Earth (VG/VG+) – 2xLP, UK 1986

Gone To Earth is an LP by David Sylvian from 1986 released on the Virgin label.

About this album

Gone To Earth is David Sylvian’s most ambitious solo statement of the 1980s, expanding his art-rock instincts into a double album that moves between stark songs and immersive ambient passages. Released in 1986 after his split from Japan, it shows Sylvian turning from new-wave polish towards a more spacious, questioning sound world, with tracks such as Taking The Veil and Before The Bullfight anchoring the more immediate side of the record. The album’s contrast between lyrical composition and abstract atmosphere helped define Sylvian’s reputation as a singular, boundary-pushing artist and remains one of his most admired works.
