Commodores – Nightshift (VG+/VG+) – LP, EU 1985

Nightshift is an LP by Commodores from 1985 released on the Motown label.

About this album

Nightshift finds the Commodores making a dignified late-career statement, with the title track emerging as one of their most memorable singles. Released in 1985, the album captured the group after Lionel Richie’s departure, leaning into polished soul, smooth vocals and a more reflective mood while still retaining their tight musicianship. The title song became a major hit and a poignant tribute to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson, helping the band reach a new generation of listeners. Elsewhere, the record balances upbeat funk and adult contemporary soul, showing how the Commodores adapted their sound without losing their identity.
