Broadcast’s The Noise Made By People is a landmark of eerie indie electronics, pairing ghostly melodies with lo-fi textures, vintage keyboard colour and understated pop instinct. Emerging at the turn of the millennium, it helped define Broadcast’s singular sound: a meeting point between psych-pop, downtempo electronics and indie rock that felt both carefully assembled and strangely detached. The album’s hushed vocals and unsettled atmosphere give songs like Echo’s Answer and Come On Let’s Go their enduring pull, while its mix of melody and abstraction has made it one of the most admired records from the era’s experimental indie underground.
