    Selected Ambient Works Volume II is one of Aphex Twin’s most important and enigmatic releases, a landmark in ambient and experimental electronic music. Issued in 1994, it expanded the mood and logic of the first Selected Ambient Works into a darker, more abstract world of drifting synths, submerged textures and untethered rhythms. Richard D. James’s largely untitled approach gave the album an elusive, dreamlike identity that encouraged listeners to focus on atmosphere and detail rather than song form. Widely regarded as a high point of 1990s electronic music, it helped define the genre’s more meditative and unsettling possibilities.
