About this album

Wave is one of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s most elegant statements, refining bossa nova into a supple blend of jazz harmony, Brazilian rhythm and orchestral grace. Released in 1967, the album broadened Jobim’s reputation beyond his earlier songwriting triumphs and confirmed his gift for making understatement feel expansive. The title track became a signature piece, while songs such as Triste and The Red Blouse show his melodic sophistication and cool emotional restraint. With its polished arrangements and understated swing, Wave helped define the international sound of bossa nova and remains one of Jobim’s most celebrated albums.
