About this album

Rapture is Anita Baker’s breakthrough and one of the defining soul albums of the 1980s. Released in 1986, it turned her into a mainstream star by pairing her velvety contralto with polished, grown-up arrangements that bridged classic soul and smooth jazz. The album’s centrepiece, Sweet Love, became a major hit and helped make Baker a signature voice of the decade, while songs such as Caught Up in the Rapture and No One in the World reinforced the record’s emotional depth and sophisticated feel. Its commercial success and critical reputation made Rapture a landmark in contemporary R&B.
