Anita Baker is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She began her career as a member of the R&B group Chapter 8, and released her first solo album, The Songstress, in 1983. The album was a commercial success, and spawned the hits “Angel” and “Sweet Love”.

Her follow-up album, Rapture, released in 1986, was even more successful. It featured the hit singles “Caught Up in the Rapture” and “Giving You the Best That I Got”. The album earned her eight Grammy Award nominations and won her two Grammys for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Baker released a series of successful albums, including Giving You the Best That I Got (1988), Compositions (1990), Rhythm of Love (1994), and Holiday Celebration (1994). Her most successful single from these albums was “Giving You the Best That I Got”, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned her a Grammy Award.

In addition to her albums, Baker has released several compilation albums, including The Best of Anita Baker (1995), The Best of Anita Baker Volume 2 (2005), and Sweet Love: The Very Best of Anita Baker (2008).
