About this album

This Time is a polished early-’80s statement from Al Jarreau, bringing together smooth jazz finesse and soulful pop appeal with his famously agile vocal style. Issued in 1980, the album shows Jarreau refining the vocal jazz crossover sound that made him one of the era’s most distinctive singers. Its blend of supple rhythms, clean arrangements and inventive phrasing gives the record an easy flow without sacrificing musical detail. With material such as "Spain (I Can Recall)" and other sharply written songs, the album helped confirm Jarreau’s reputation for turning technical brilliance into something warm, accessible and musically sophisticated.
