The Time is an American funk and dance band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was one of the most successful groups to come out of the Minneapolis Sound. Formed in 1981, the group was led by singer Morris Day and featured guitarist Jesse Johnson, keyboardist Jimmy Jam and drummer Terry Lewis. The Time's debut album was 1981's The Time, which featured their biggest hit single, "Get It Up". The song peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the group's only single to chart on the Hot 100. Other standout songs from the album include "Cool," "Girl," and "The Stick." The Time's sophomore effort, 1982's What Time Is It?, featured two of the band's biggest hits, "777-9311" and "Wild and Loose". The album also included the singles "Gigolos Get Lonely Too" and "The Walk". The band's final album before disbanding in 1984 was Ice Cream Castle. The album featured the singles "Jungle Love" and "The Bird". The album also contained the fan favorite "Ice Cream Castles" which was the group's biggest hit, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. An interesting fact about The Time is that Prince was an original member of the group and co-wrote some of their songs, including "Get It Up" and "The Bird". Prince left the group before the release of their debut album, but his influence can still be heard in the band's music.
