Muse is an English rock band from Teignmouth, Devon. Formed in 1994, the band consists of Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass guitar, backing vocals, keyboards), and Dominic Howard (drums, percussion). Muse has released eight studio albums and are known for their energetic live performances and their fusion of alternative rock, classical music, progressive rock, electronica, and metal. Muse's first album, Showbiz, was released in 1999, and their second album, Origin of Symmetry, was released in 2001. Both albums received critical acclaim, and Origin of Symmetry was certified double platinum in the UK. Their third album, Absolution, was released in 2003, and was their breakthrough success, reaching the top 10 in multiple countries. It was certified 4x platinum in the UK, and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. Muse's fourth album, Black Holes and Revelations, was released in 2006. It was their first album to reach number one in the UK and the US, and was certified 3x platinum in the UK and 2x platinum in the US. It featured some of their most successful singles, including "Starlight" and "Supermassive Black Hole". Muse's fifth album, The Resistance, was released in 2009 and was their second consecutive album to reach number one in the UK and the US. It was certified 3x platinum in the UK, and featured the singles "Uprising" and "Resistance". Muse's sixth album, The 2nd Law, was released in 2012, and was their third consecutive album to reach number one in the UK and the US. It featured the singles "Madness" and "Survival", and was certified double platinum in the UK. Muse's seventh album, Drones, was released in 2015 and was their fourth consecutive album to reach number one in the UK and the US. It featured the singles "Dead Inside" and "Mercy", and was certified platinum in the UK. Muse's eighth album, Simulation Theory, was released in 2018 and was their fifth consecutive album to reach number one in the UK and the US. It featured the singles "Something Human" and "Pressure", and was certified gold in the UK. Muse have won multiple awards, including two Grammy Awards and five MTV Europe Music Awards. They have also been nominated for seven Brit Awards and two Mercury Music Prizes. An interesting fact about Muse is that they are the first band to ever play in the Sistine Chapel. In 2013, they were invited to perform at a private concert in the Sistine Chapel, becoming the first rock band to ever perform in the historic venue.
