Machinations Vinyl Records

Machinations is an Australian rock band formed in 1978 by Bill Gibson, his brother Paul and cousin Gavin Anderson. The band is best known for its hits “Pressure Sway” and “My Heart’s On Fire”, which were both top 10 singles in Australia. Their debut album, Machinations, was released in 1983 and reached the top 30 of the Australian album chart. This was followed by the singles “No Say in It” and “Average Inadequacy” in 1984. Their second album, Esteem, was released in 1986 and reached the top 10 of the album chart. The album spawned the singles “Do to You” and “Listen to the Rhythm Flow”, both of which reached the top 40.

The band’s biggest success came in 1988 with the single “Pressure Sway”, which reached the top 10 in Australia and was featured on the band’s third album, Big Music. The album also featured the singles “My Heart’s on Fire”, “Do to You” and “Average Inadequacy”. The band’s fourth album, Gilt Complex, was released in 1990 and featured the singles “Black & Blue” and “Dreams Don’t Lie”.

The band has released two live albums, Live at the Metro (1991) and Live at the Basement (1997). The band has also released a greatest hits compilation, The Essential Machinations (2005).

An interesting fact about Machinations is that the band was originally formed as a punk band in 1978, but soon shifted to a more pop-oriented sound.
