James Brown was an American singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer, and record producer. He is often referred to as the "Godfather of Soul" and was an influential figure in the development of funk music and the subgenre of soul. Brown began his career as a gospel singer in Toccoa, Georgia in the 1950s. His rise to fame began with the release of his single "Please, Please, Please" in 1956, which sold over a million copies.

Brown went on to release a string of hit singles, albums, and live performances. His albums include Live at the Apollo (1963), It's a Man's Man's Man's World (1966), I Got You (I Feel Good) (1966), and Say It Loud – I'm Black and I'm Proud (1968). His singles include "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag," "I Got You (I Feel Good)," "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," and "Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine."
