Floating Points is an English DJ, producer and composer, born Sam Shepherd. He is one of the most influential and innovative figures in the world of electronic music. Shepherd began making music as a teen, and in 2012 released his first album, Vacuum EP, on the label Eglo Records. The EP was praised by critics and is considered one of the best releases of that year.

Floating Points' subsequent releases, including Elaenia (2015), Reflections – Mojave Desert (2017), Crush (2019) and his critically acclaimed score for the film The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu (2019), have cemented his status as one of the most sought-after artists in electronic music.

The standout albums of Floating Points include Elaenia, Reflections – Mojave Desert and Crush. Elaenia was particularly praised for its mix of electronic and acoustic sounds, while Crush saw Shepherd experimenting with genres such as funk and jazz.

Floating Points' songs are known for their intricate layers of sound and hypnotic grooves. Standout tracks include “Silurian Blue”, “Kites” and “LesAlpx”.

An interesting fact about Floating Points is that he is a classically trained musician, having studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He also plays the piano, clarinet and oboe, and is known for his intricate and melodic soundscapes.
